| I have been studying chinese brush painting for many years now. I have had two wonderful teachers. My first teacher, Tara Hu, taught me chinese calligraphy. With my second teacher, Jean Shen, I am learning painting. I am very grateful to my teachers for their inspiration and patience. They have taught me to see the world differently. My art has become an expression of what I see. I am particularly fond of landscape painting. When I paint a landscape painting, I feel the landscape; the breeze touching my skin, the sound of water and squirls, the smell of pine. Painting is moving meditation, and my mind comes to the brush in my hand, the smell of the ink, the sight of the stroke, the smell of the kumquat tree which hovers above my meditation/painting table. I love to sit on my deck, under the kumquat tree, painting. Laura B Pasternack |
